The Bravest Dog Ever: The True Story of Balto

The Bravest Dog Ever: The True Story of Balto, by Natalie Standiford, is about a dog named Balto who tries to save a whole town by leading the sled dogs to Nome, Alaska with medicine. The children had diphtheria which could make them die because they did not have the medicine they needed to get better. It was all up to Balto to save the children. They used sled dogs to transport the medicine because the train got stuck in snow. Twenty-one dog teams went out to save the day, the last team lead by Balto. When Balto went to bring the medicine to the sick kids, his paw got stuck in ice. Balto did not give up. If this sounds interesting to you, read this heartwarming book.

I like the book because it is a true story about a dog who didn't give up. This book is exciting. I didn't stop once while I was reading this book. This book made me have many questions when I was reading, I was wondering whether Balto got to Nome in time or was it too late for him to save the children. How many animals are able to lead their group in such hard conditions? My favorite part of the book is that they put up a monument of Balto in New York City's Central Park, in 1926. I thought it was special that they built a monument in New York City! This showed that the whole country appreciated Balto for his efforts.

I recommend this book to any person that likes dogs. If you read this book, you will like it, because it is the true story of the dog who made history. I would also recommend this book to people who live in Alaska. The story took place in Alaska and since it is a true story, they will like it.
