"Where is my mother", thought Maria, a servant girl for the wealthy Medina family. The 13-year-old girl did not know that her mother died during the Small Pox epidemic. How is it that she and her brother didn't die, too? You will have to read it to find out!
I thought the book was unique because it tells you about history and the time of 1845-1846 in California. It is like the other books by the same author because she writes it in the form of a diary. It reminds me of another book called, "Esperanza Rising", because she is also from California, in about the same time as Maria.
I recommend the book because it tells about her emotions and feelings. I recommend this book for fourth graders and up. Once you start reading it, you won't stop until the end!
