“Woof! Woof! Woof!” If you’re begging for more doggy books, then you’re in for a treat! Waiting for the Magic is a great book written by Patricia MacLachlan and illustrated by Amy June Bates. It will have you barking for more!
William’s mom adopts four dogs and a cat when his dad leaves to get some writing done. His mom did this to try to distract them from their dad being gone. The book has an important lesson to be learned. The lesson is that family can come in all shapes and sizes. When William and Elinor’s dad returns home from a month long writing assignment, he discovers that the dogs can talk. Soon, the whole family finds out that the dogs can talk!
I think this book is funny, exciting, and magical. My favorite characters are William and his pet dogs – Neo, Bitty, Bryan, Grace, and Scooter. He also has a cat named Lulu, too. They are really funny and interesting to read about. My favorite part of the book is when William’s mom finally has her baby boy, Nicholas. I liked this part because at first I didn’t know that William’s mom was going to have a baby, so it was surprising. I liked that William got to be a big brother again and Elinor finally gets to be a big sister.
Waiting for the Magic is the perfect book for kids ages 8 and older. It is one the best books I’ve read this year. I definitely recommend this book, especially if you like to smile!
