Have you ever been on an island? Ellray Jakes Walks the Plank by Sally Warner is a book about a small boy with a big problem. In the beginning, Ellray Jakes starts talking about his book Treasure Island. Then, Ellray’s family goes somewhere so they need a pet sitter. The pet sitter accidentally pours all the fish food in the fishbowl. Suddenly, the fish eats too much food and sadly it dies. You should read Ellray Jakes Walks the Plank to find out what happens next. Does Ellray Jakes get a new fish?
In my opinion, Ellray Jakes Walks the Plank is a book you won’t want to put down. First of all, Ellray Jakes is funny. For example, when Ellray flexes his muscles they look like ping pong balls. Equally important, is that the characters overcome a sadness. For example, when Ellray’s pet fish died the whole class cheered him up. Lastly, it is suspenseful. For instance, when the pet sitter accidentally poured all the fish food in the fish bowl, you don’t know if the fish will die. For all these reasons, Ellray Jakes Walks the Plank is a book you won’t want to miss. Ahoy matey!
If you like books filled with suspense then you will love Ellray Jakes Walks the Plank. Do you like suspense? I would give this book 5 stars because they teach you a lesson about what to do when a pet dies. I recommend this book for 2nd and 3rd graders because Ellray is very funny! I highly suggest you read this book by Sally Warner and walk the plank!
