Seventeen-year-old Greg "Slam" Harris planned his future in the big court NBA and getting old of Harlem. But his grades are not so hot and neither is his coach. His assistant coach seems to put him in the game of life and helps him work the game just as life - hard and fast. He helps him use his mind instead of his anger.
There were a few things that really stood out in this book. I like the cover illustration. It really gives a definition of the book with garnished dark colors. The author's writing style is really unique and "smartsy-artsy". A lot of his phrases are ones that you would not have heard before. It was also fun to see Ducky, Greg's only real friend at the new school, become more independent through the book. I also like the main character who reminds me of my brother: really smart, but doesn't use his brains all the time.
This is a really good book and I recommend it to others. The story line is interesting. My favorite part was when they were describing playing on the court because you get can really "see" what's happening.
